As the super typhoon Capricorn approached, China’s independently developed numerical forecasting model known as “Mazu Ocean Wave” delivered precise and timely warnings, significantly reducing losses caused by natural disasters like waves and storm surges.
By the end of 2023, the “Mazu Ocean Wave” numerical forecasting model officially entered operational use. It was applied to marine disaster prevention and mitigation efforts during this year’s flood season, with significant improvements in forecasting accuracy and timeliness compared to previous models.
